Job Description

The Producer in this role plays a critical editorial and production role, handling a variety of key tasks that are essential to the success of the daily program. This includes everything from line producing, expertise in video editing and strong editorial capabilities. This role includes line producing responsibilities — managing the rundown, keeping the show on time, coordinating with control room and technical staff, and making real-time editorial decisions during broadcasts. The position also requires proficiency in non-linear video editing, with the ability to quickly produce high-impact content under deadline pressure. The producer may be asked to fill in for the supervising producer, helping oversee show flow, assigning stories, and coordinating with teams across platforms to ensure editorial consistency and quality. A sharp editorial eye is essential, as the producer must be able to identify the strongest content across platforms — from TV to digital and social — and determine what’s most relevant and engaging for the program’s audience. Qualifications include 6+ years' experience in national or major media markets, preferably with a background in network or cable news production. A Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field is preferred, or equivalent experience. The position requires keen news judgment, a love of journalism and an extensive knowledge of basic television news production - including the ability to use non-linear editing software, an understanding of what makes a strong VO and the ability to write clear, concise and urgent scripts.
