Location: 600 Travis Street - Houston, Texas 77002 Job Summary The Petroleum Engineer Team Leader will report directly to the Senior Vice President and Leader of Energy, Banking Group Private Loan Management ("SVP-BGPM") and will be located in KeyBank's office in Houston, TX. As a key part of KeyBank's Energy team, the Petroleum Engineer Team Leader will manage the KeyBank Petroleum Engineering Team that provides engineering support to the corporate banking function, leading the technical and economic evaluation of oil and gas properties in accordance with good engineering practice and KeyBank policy related to oil and gas reserve-based loans and other credit extensions. The prime function is to determine corporate lending values based on a strong understanding of oil and gas lending risks. The Petroleum Engineer Team Leader will collaborate closely with KeyBank's Energy Relationship Managers to evaluate, build, support, and maintain portfolios requiring engineering expertise. This role involves attending industry forums, participating in client and prospect calls with energy bankers, and communicating technical aspects of clients' producing properties to technical personnel and senior executives. The individual will discuss engineering risks and merits of deals with senior management, assist in establishing lending policies, and contribute to the oil and gas pricing deck. Essential Team Lead Job Functions Evaluate third-party reserve reports to establish independent lending values in compliance with KeyBank’s policies and risk tolerances. Perform periodic reviews of portfolio metrics. Support technical evaluations of oil & gas assets, including production updates, collateral valuation, credit analysis, and cash flow modeling for upstream companies. Discuss engineering risks and merits of each deal, providing guidance to various teams and senior management. Utilize industry software (e.g., Aries / PHDWin) to verify reserve assessments. Review technical and economic input parameters to ensure compliance with data standards. Use corporate cash flow models incorporating economic assumptions such as production forecasts, reserves, commodity prices, operating costs, and discount rates. Assess the experience and competence of clients’ technical management and the reasonableness of their business strategies. Prepare memos for complex credit applications, including independent assessments of lending values and asset quality. Assist in business development and execution of bank mandates, including syndications. Maintain a network of petroleum engineers to assess market risks and develop oil and gas price decks. Contribute to establishing lending policies and price decks based on industry experience. Conduct client and prospect calls for due diligence in coordination with the banking team. Perform miscellaneous technical duties as needed. Required Qualifications Undergraduate degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related technical field, with relevant industry experience. Minimum of 10 years of domestic/international oil and gas evaluation experience, preferably with a financial institution, exploration & production company, or engineering consulting firm. Technical expertise in reserve evaluation and economics of oil and gas properties. Working knowledge of Aries/PHDWin, Access, Microsoft Office, and ability to learn new technologies. Understanding of PRMS and SEC reporting requirements. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills to develop rapport with senior management and clients. High energy and desire to grow the business and achieve results. Preferred Qualifications Masters degree in Petroleum Engineering or an MBA.
