About Us:

FirstWave is a long/short hedge fund launching in July 2025 with an expected $300+ million AUM. FirstWave’s investment strategy is built upon deep research to find the most undervalued and misunderstood growth companies with the strongest fundamentals and most compelling valuation and under-appreciated catalysts in an attempt to identify the best asymmetric risk/reward opportunities. While it’s great to have a high batting average, we believe a high slugging percentage is way more important when generating outsized returns over the long-term which means we want our highest conviction ideas to be our biggest positions. We hedge our high-beta growth strategy using a combination of ETFs, single stock shorts and options.

Position Overview:

As a generalist Equity Research Analyst, you will be responsible for in-depth coverage of 30–50 stocks across a range of sectors. Your work will drive investment decisions on both the long and short side of the portfolio. You will engage in full-cycle fundamental analysis—everything from dissecting 10-Ks to building dynamic investment models and engaging with trading and portfolio managers. You’ll also be expected to present your highest-conviction ideas to the investment committee with clarity, depth, and conviction.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct deep-dive fundamental research on companies across multiple sectors
• Monitor and analyze information from earnings reports, SEC filings, industry publications, and other public and proprietary data sources
• Build and maintain detailed financial and valuation models
• Write thorough and actionable investment research reports
• Regularly pitch differentiated, alpha-generating long and short investment ideas to the team
• Participate in earnings calls, attend investor/industry conferences, and track relevant macroeconomic trends
• Interface with investor relations teams, sell-side analysts, and industry experts to refine views
• Maintain and update a watchlist of high-conviction names and potential opportunities
• Collaborate with PMs and traders to align research insights with portfolio positioning

Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience in equity research (buy-side or sell-side)
• Willing to be a generalist ie comfortable covering a wide range of sectors and business models
• Expert-level financial modeling and valuation skills (DCF, LBO, comps, etc.)
• Excellent writing, presentation, and communication abilities
• Deep understanding of accounting, corporate finance, and capital markets
• Highly self-directed, intellectually curious, and process-oriented
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; CFA a plus
• Hedge fund experience preferred especially if it was a long/short equity strategy
• Proven ability to generate actionable investment ideas
• Familiarity with financial databases and tools (Bloomberg, FactSet, CapIQ, etc.)
• Sector specialization is welcome, but a flexible, generalist mindset is preferred

Compensation:

Competitive base salary (commensurate with experience) with company-based performance bonus and individual-based performance bonus.
