Job Description

Position: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Primary Objective of Position:

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring programs to ensure a safe and compliant work environment within Electric Machinery Company. Conducts audits, inspections, identifies hazards, provides safety training, investigates incidents, and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Promotes a proactive safety culture through regular engagement and communication with employees.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Conduct daily safety audits and inspections in the plant; identify potentially unsafe working conditions, hazardous conditions, and regulatory deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Advise Production Supervisors on safety concerns and implement safety initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Production Supervisors to develop and update safety protocols and procedures.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, near-misses, and injuries to determine root causes.
  • Conduct monthly Safety Committee Meetings to discuss safety improvements.
  • Implement corrective actions to prevent future incidents and manage detailed records.
  • Review and update safety policies and procedures.
  • Monitor, update, and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS); ensure they are readily available for all employees.
  • Manage waste disposal and pollution programs.
  • Coordinate emergency response plans and drills.
  • Partner with Lean Continuous Improvement Program Manager on the Sustainability Program.
  • Manage and enter OSHA data in JJ Keller Management Suite and WEG Safety Portal.
  • Collaborate on personal protective equipment hazard assessments and recommend compliance products.
  • Manage First-aid Cabinets and AED Machines.
  • Perform other related job duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred; relevant experience may be substituted.
  • OSHA-30 Certificate in General Industry preferred or to be obtained within six months of hire.
  • First aid/CPR/AED certification or to be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and MNOSHA regulations.
  • Ability to conduct training and meetings.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies.
  • Demonstrate integrity and professionalism with confidential information.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and SAP.
  • Proficient in using safety equipment and tools.
  • Flexibility to changing work demands.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in a plant environment; ability to move throughout the plant and office.
  • Standing for sustained periods, stooping, and bending as needed.
  • Walking to accomplish tasks and moving throughout the plant and office.
  • Ascending and descending stairs daily in the plant and office.
  • Mental acuity for rational decision-making.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
